My main research interests include visual exploration of the inner parts and the quality of machine learning (ML) models with a specific focus on making complex ML models better understandable and explainable, as well as to provide reliable trust in the ML models and their results.

Long Bio

Angelos Chatzimparmpas is a Postdoctoral Scholar in Computer Science at Northwestern University, USA, and a member of the MU Collective research lab. His main research interests include visual exploration of the inner parts and the quality of machine learning (ML) models with a specific focus on making complex ML models better understandable and explainable, as well as to provide reliable trust in the ML models and their results. Recently, he has expanded his scope of research to include the use of ML for data visualization and methods to challenge ML model findings.

Throughout his academic career, Angelos has made significant contributions by publishing journal articles and conference papers at top visualization and HCI venues. Notably, Angelos’ work has been awarded a best short paper award at VINCI 2021. Another highlight is the recognition of his doctoral research project by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, leading to its inclusion in the IVA-100 list in 2023.

Prior to joining Northwestern, Angelos completed his Ph.D. at Linnaeus University, Sweden, where he worked with Prof. Dr. Andreas Kerren within the ISOVIS research group. In 2022, he served as a Visiting Scholar at Arizona State University, USA, thus collaborating closely with members of the VADER research lab. In 2017, Angelos earned both his BSc and MSc in Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Western Macedonia, Greece. During his final year of undergraduate studies, Angelos finished an Erasmus+ internship at the CTTC research center in Spain, where he worked as a research scientist for the IoT World project.
