Program DescriptionThe Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)
Department offers a wide variety of programs of study leading to the MS and PhD degrees
in Computer Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), and Electrical Engineering (EE).
The broad interdisciplinary interests of our faculty mean that there is
overlap in the three degrees.
Please visit the EECS Web
site for a detailed description of the areas of focus within the EECS department.
The selection of a particular degree (CE, CS or EE) does not in any way limit a
graduate student's course of study. Students choose courses based on their
interests and career goals. When applying to the PhD or MS program, students should
specify one or a limited number of research areas, by selecting the appropriate
research divisions,
so that the application may be reviewed by the appropriate faculty. Applicants are
expected to have adequate background to pursue research in their areas of interest.
The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department also participates in the
Master's Program in Information Technology,
the MS and PhD degree programs in
the Learning Sciences,
and
the specialization in
Cognitive Science. For details and contact information, see the respective
web sites for each program.
Faculty The primary appointment for those faculty with joint or affiliate status in another program is noted in parentheses.
