Welcome to my website!

I am Zafar Rafii, Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at Northwestern University, Chicago/Evanston IL, USA. I am was with the Interactive Audio Lab, under the supervision of Professor Bryan Pardo. I am now a research engineer in the Media Technology Lab at Gracenote.

My research interests are centered on audio analysis, at the intersection of signal processing, machine learning, and cognitive science. Some of the projects I have been working on are, among others, music genre classification, adaptive user interfaces, mono and stereo source separation, speech enhancement, audio fingerprinting and cover identification.

I received a Master in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Telecommunications from Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Electronique et de ses Applications in France and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in the US.

I worked as a research engineer at Audionamix (formerly known as Mist Technologies) in France for more than a year, and as a Ph.D. intern at Gracenote in the US for six months.
